A town with almost 20,000 inhabitants. In the last century several splendid mansions were built in the centre of the old town, the most exquisite ones are in Szent István tér, the main square of the town. An attractive view is offered from here to the row of bazaars, built around 1860. The Roman Catholic three-isled, basilice style Jesus's Heart church was consecrated in 1901. There is a tablet in the wall of the baroque Szeniczey mansion to commemorate Ferenc Deák, 'the Sage of the Country'. The Town Museum is housed in the former Cseh-Vigyázó mansion. The Calvinist and the Lutheran churches were built in 1775 and 1884 respectively. The Catholic Holy Spririt church, built according to the design of Imre Makovecz, is an outstanding work of 20^th century architecture. The nuclear power station producing almost the half of the domestic electric power is on the confines of the town and its operation can be observed from the Visitors' Centre. One of the natural prides of the town is the hundred years old chestnut alley lining the walkway on the Danube bank. From the recurring programs of the town the Spring Festival at Whitsuntide and the International Festival of Blues, Jazz, Rock and Gastronomy are to be highlighted.

Stadt mit fast 20.000 Einwohnern. Im vorigen Jahrhundert sind im Zentrum der Altstadt mehrere schöne Landhäuser errichtet worden. Die schönsten Gebäude stehen am Hauptplatz der Stadt, Szent-István-tér. Vom Platz aus kann man die Basarreihe gut sehen, die um I860 gebaut wurde. Die dreischiffige römisch-katholishe Herz-Jesu-Kirche im Stil von Basiliken wurde 1901 eingeweiht. An der Wand des barocken Szeniczey-Landhauses erinnert eine Tafel an Ferenc Deák ("Weise des Vaterlandes"). Das Stätische Museum wartet auf seine Gäste im CsehVigyázó-Landhaus. Die reformierte Kirche wurde 1755, die evangelische 1884 gebaut. Ein hervorragendes Werk des 20. Jahrhunderts ist die römischkatholische Heiliger-Geist-Kirche von Imre Makovecz. Außerhalb der Stadt steht das Atomkraftwerk. Es erzeugt knapp die Hälfte der Energieproduktion Ungarns. Das Atomkraftwerk wird dem Publikum im Besucherzentrum gezeigt. Unter Naturschutz steht die hundert ]ahre alte Kastanienallee an der Donauprom enade. Dir ständigen Programme in Paks sind: Frühlingsfestival zu Pfingsten sowie im ]uni das Internationale Jazz-, Rock- und gastronomisches Festival.
